What is Super 21?

Posted on: November 29, 2007

card deck

Super 21 is a variation of regular blackjack. Although it plays like blackjack, there are many different rules between the games. The main differences are in the payout of 21 totals. Instead of getting 3 to 2 on all your 21 totals, this game pays even money on 21’s, except 2 to 1 for blackjack in diamonds and five-card 21 totals (as long as you haven’t previously doubled down in the hand). Any total of 20 or less with six cards automatically pays 1 to 1, unless you’ve already doubled down.

The house is forced to hit on a soft 17, and you’re allowed to double down on any total. The casinos usually only use one or two decks to play the game, giving them an edge of 1.36% for one deck and 1.30% for two. It’s a fun change from the usual, but the odds are better with the original.

Bingo: Then and Now

Posted on: November 20, 2007

bingo

The origins of Bingo can be traced to a game called Lotto first played by Italians in the 1530’s. This game is still played every Saturday in Italy and is called Lo Giuoco del Lotto d’Italia. Modern bingo is a direct descendant of Lo Giuoco del Lotto d’Italia.
Bingo reached North America in 1929. It was first played at a carnival in Atlanta, Georgia using dried pinto beans. The man credited with popularizing the game in the U.S. is Edwin S Lowe. who promoted and marketed Bingo. Once Lowe’s game had been honed and perfected, its popularity spread very quickly so that by 1934, 10,000 bingo games were played weekly.
Today some 50,000 of the estimated 3 million land-based bingo players now play bingo online. Bingo revenues are in the tens of millions of dollars and the activity has now joined poker and backgammon in taking the online gaming industry by storm while simultaneously marking a resurgence in the popularity of the game.

The Basics of Betting

Posted on: November 19, 2007

Betting

When it comes to betting, there are no limits. You can bet on anything you want from politics, to weather, finance or any sport that is in existence.

First thing’s first, before anything you must be able to work out exactly how much you can afford to loose. This may sound like basic betting advice but if you do happen to have a bad run you’ll know that the money lost wont effect other aspects of your life.

Two terms that you probably already know are Stakes and Odds.  When you place a bet your stake is the amount of money you are willing to gamble. Odds, in the world of betting are the perceived probability of a win (pertaining to what ever you’re betting on).

When it comes to odds there are different ways to read them.

Odds Against- This is when the bookmaker offers a return which is more than double the amount staked for a win bet.  If your stake is $1, a winning bet at 2/1 will return you $2 plus your original stake = $3 total

Evens- This is when the bookmaker offers a return at double the amount staked. Again if you bet $1 and win you will return $1 plus your stake = $2 total

Odds On- This is when the bookmaker offers a return that is less than double the amount staked. A successful $1 bet at 1/2 will return $0.50 plus your stake = $1.50 total.

These are just the basics, but the more you bet the better decisions you will make through your experiences.

Good luck and happy betting!

Gambling Grannies Beware!

Posted on: November 7, 2007

gambling grandma

Recently a 73-year-old great grandmother who tends bar at an Elks lodge in California is now looking at spending one year in prison for being the organizer of a $50 football pool. Cops, acting on an anonymous tip, discovered an envelope containing 10 five-dollar bills placed behind her bar, which oddly enough constitutes a gambling operation. You think this should be no big deal and the law enforcement typically ignores low stakes betting between friends, but now it seems that even this may be at risk. Good luck grandma!

NBA Betting: Who Will Be This Year’s Champs?

Posted on: November 2, 2007

kobe-cartoon.jpg

And we’re off. The NBA season is in full swing, and when people aren’t talking about what’s going to happen to Kobe Bryant, they’re talking about who’s going to win the championship.

The answer might be wherever Bryant lands, assuming he doesn’t stay a member of the Los Angeles Lakers for the rest of the season. But he wouldn’t be the only player changing teams. The trading deadline is a key part of building a championship club, and if you want to pick a winner now, you have to factor in front office acumen.

With that in mind, drum roll please… the Dallas Mavericks. The Spurs and Suns each have a very good shot, but both had questionable offseasons (think Kurt Thomas and Luis Scola), while the Mavs are fresh off adding Juwan Howard. He and Eddie Jones should help keep the starting five fresh for the playoffs. Just watch out for Golden State this time.
